DENVER, CO Monday Dec.1.2003 /netmusiccountdown.com/ -- In a recent article in the Denver Post, Shania Twain is singled out for thriving in the shrinking country market place.

While most male and particularly female country artists are finding it hard to sell big numbers these days, Twain's one year-old UP! CD package has now sold over 10 million copies. The paper cites Twain's nearly career-long cultivation of huge sales in both the country and pop market place.

Quoting Country Media Group's, Rick Taylor, Twain has survived the effects of 9/11 on country sales. "Post-9/11, country music sort of turned back a bit more traditional, and traditional usually means men," he said. "In other words, traditional means less pop. ... So a lot of females are not achieving the same level of success that they did before."

Twain's pop sound, however, probably helped her through the country downturn, because she took over mainstream pop in 1999 with the release of "Come on Over."
