DETROIT, MI Friday Feb.27.2004 /netmusiccountdown.com/ -- Maroon 5 will record a cover of Sly & the Family Stone's "Everyday People" for a tribute album, "Sly2K," to be released this spring. Says singer Adam Levine of Maroon 5's version of the song, "It's a little rougher around the edges. (It's) more synthetic in the Daft Punk kind of vein."

Sly & the Family Stone, a seminal R&B/funk/psychadelic band who hit their peak in the late 1960s, were ultimately undone by the personal problems of Sylvester "Sly Stone" Stewart, which included narcotics addiction, a cocaine bust, and eventual incarceration.

Other contributors to "Sly2K" include Beck, Moby, Audioslave, the Roots, Lenny Kravitz, Floetry, and the Black Eyed Peas.
