An ownership group that includes Jay-Z purchased the NBA franchise for an estimated $300 million. The group is led by Bruce Ratner, a real estate developer. Jay-Z has a minority share in the team.
Ratner recruited Brooklyn natives like Jay-Z to the group because the developer hopes to relocate the Nets from New Jersey to Brooklyn. He also wants to build a new arena in downtown Brooklyn.
