But, like a rocket in space that doesn't slow down after turning off the motor, McGraw's superstar inertia added up to a big year almost in spite of himself.
First, Tim landed the Monday Night Football halftime highlights feature with a weekly adaptation of his song "I Like It I Love It." And then, fresh from his critically acclaimed performance in the film "Friday Night Lights," Tim landed an even bigger, starring role in the re-make of "My Friend Flicka."
THEN, Tim's few scheduled tour dates turned into 500,000 attendance for the year (even though they never even reported attendance this year).
PLUS, McGraw has been recording non-stop, AND he has been writing more this year. Add to that all the TV appearances and awards and Tim's laid back '05 has actually been as competitive as artists that have been pushing hard all year, his camp boasts.
They also point out that Tim's 162-weeks-old "Greatest Hits" remains a great hit catalog item this year. As Tim's celebrity status grew outside of country music this album has been the one that new fans have checked out. It sold almost 40,000 copies last week.
